Luye № 8 (Red Oolong)
Luye № 8 (Red Oolong)
Portrait
Taitung in Taiwan is famous for its red oolong which is the outcome of combining the manufacturing process of oolong and black tea. Its signature is of strong floral or ripe fruit character. We visited most of the local red oolong producers and eventually decided to add Ah Shan's loose leaf tea to our selection. He is a young and ambitious individual who we met several years back when we just started our own tea journey. Ah Shan farms, produces and refines / roasts by himself which guarantees full quality control on a very high level. Over the years he has managed to raise the bar again and again, yielding him many awards. Despite of performing well at tea competitions, Ah Shan is able to create premium teas that are rich in fruity and floral flavors, but also clean and smooth, so one doesn’t feel overwhelmed. He understands to extract the best of both worlds and brings it together in a well balanced blend: the bright sparkle of oolong and the mellow base of black tea.
