Facts

This black tea comes from wild tea trees in the untamed mountains of Hsinchu, Taiwan, growing at an altitude of 450 – 500 meters. These Huang Gan tea trees have been left untended for over 60 years and are now exceptionally rare. Originally introduced during the Japanese colonial period, Huang Gan is notable for its distinctive varietal aroma, combining woody and citrus notes. It is the only tea varietal incorporated into traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions, offering additional health benefits beyond its remarkable flavor.

Source

Handcrafted by an elder passionate about nature, this tea is made from old tea trees found near his home in undeveloped forests. Each step of production—from hand-plucking to careful processing—is done manually, preserving the essence of the natural environment. The resulting tea is delicate, smooth, and imbued with a nurturing energy. Every batch is produced in extremely limited quantities only.

Flavor Profile

This Huang Gan black tea exudes a radiant golden character with a primary aroma of citrus and honey, underpinned by a grounding woody depth. The taste is a harmonious blend of light sweetness, rich old-tree notes, and a refreshing, clean finish. Its handcrafted nature results in an especially smooth and rounded liquor with a comforting warmth.

Drinking Suggestion

This tea is highly versatile, making it suitable for both tea novices and experienced connoisseurs. Its approachable yet distinctive flavor profile offers a sense of calm and comfort. Thanks to its herbal qualities (without tasting medicinal), it provides a soothing, healing sensation, leaving you feeling peaceful and grounded. Whether enjoyed to start your day with clarity or as a gentle companion to replenish warmth and energy, this tea’s uplifting and elegant nature is perfect for any moment of reflection or refreshment.

Why We Share This Tea

This was my first encounter with the Huang Gan varietal, and I was captivated by its unique aroma and flavor. Unlike most of black teas, it carries an extraordinary herbal depth that feels like sipping a delicious tonic, bringing inner stability and serenity. I find myself wanting its company every day.

Beyond this tea, we offer three additional handcrafted black teas from the same artisan, each showcasing unique varietals, flavors, and craftsmanship: Red Wild № 16, Mountain Echo № 17, Healing Glow № 18. Every tea promises an equally enriching journey of exploration and appreciation.
