Relaxing Gongfu Tea Ceremony in a Ceramics Studio in the Taiwanese Mountains

E Nan

Over the last few months we have been kindly asked several times if we could provide guidance for hosting tea gatherings and ceremonies. Here are some (hopefully beneficial) reflections we would like to share with you:

At the core people are struggling with the same question: “Am I good enough?”.

There is nervousness about the unknown. You are going to expose yourself. You are going to take a risk.

“What if...? How should I…? …”

The truth is: None of that matters. As soon as you commit to give your best for someone, you are stepping into a new world. Technicalities become insignificant. Instead you start to dance with the people around you. You serve them. You care for them. And your guests can feel it. They pay back with their attention and trust. In this shared moment, you give each other a feeling of belonging.

You have overcome your fear.

Shao feels exactly like you. Every single time. This short film documents her dance. Her commitment. Her metamorphosis - from fear to belonging.

This short film was shot around Chulu, Taitung, Taiwan.
